Assistant Commissioner – Operations
Position Summary:
The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) is hiring a full-time Assistant Commissioner to serve the conference and its 14 member institutions in the following areas:
- Assist with the day-to-day administration of conference policies and procedures.
- Function as the event operations manager for conference championships.
- Manage the conference’s various awards programs.
- Assist the commissioner in strategic planning, mission and vision development, and navigating the ever-changing landscape of small-college intercollegiate athletics.
Specific Duties:
Assist the conference commissioner with the administration of conference policies and procedures:
- Assist the commissioner in all areas of conference operations.
- Assist in the oversight, preparation, and distribution of sport schedules for every conference sport.
- Assist the Board of Presidents and Governing Council Chairs in assembling and submitting materials, agendas, meeting requests and minutes for all meetings.
- Attend the Governing Council and Board of President meetings, serving as the secretary at meetings.
- Assist with RefQuest officials’ game fee payments and officiating assignment audits.
- Assist with strategic planning, conference vision and mission, and bridging the connection of athletics to higher education.
- Organize task-force groups to develop policies and procedures.
- Develop data, when possible, to aid in decision making.
- Serve as the point of contact for the KCAC Intra-Conference Transfer Policy.
- Track KCAC Intra-Conference Transfer appeals.
- Assist with budget construction and management.
Assist the conference commissioner with the management of conference championships:
- Assess, develop, activate and manage the direction and operation of 26 KCAC conference championships, including event management, financial management and staffing.
- Integrate creatively and effectively the Champions of Character program within the student-athlete championship experience.
- Provide strategic direction to KCAC championships that focus on the student-athlete experience.
- Work closely with sport chairs and coaching committees to design specific sport plans.
- Recommend strategies, priorities, and projects that will best achieve the KCAC’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Update Championship Event Manuals and Sport Manuals annually.
- Order postseason awards and banners.
- Develop award and public-address scripts.
- Maintain and manage the KCAC ticket portal with Hometown Ticketing.
- Serve as the main point of contact with Travel Desk in the development of KCAC hotel room blocks at championship events.
- Develop RFPs for conference championships and events in local communities.
- Serve as the liaison to various conference committees.
- Seek committee opportunities in the NAIA governance structure.
- Seek sponsorship opportunities at KCAC championship sites.
- Assist the KCAC Assistant Commissioner for Sports Information with the administration of KCAC Virtual Media Days.
Considerations:
- This position will be a full-time position that reports directly to the KCAC Commissioner.
- This position will include travel to conference championships and meetings as agreed upon with the KCAC Commissioner.
- This position will work under a 12-month appointment with a desired start date of July 1, 2024.
- A competitive salary and benefits package has been established for this position. The final salary amount will be determined based on qualifications and prior experience.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business, education, sport management or related field with 6-10 years of work experience are preferred.
Reside within the footprint of the conference.
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Be familiar with NAIA rules and regulations.
- Work effectively on multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Be comfortable working closely with presidents, athletics directors, coaches, trainers, sports information directors, officials, and student-athletes.
- Possess considerable independence, creativity, and initiative.
- Commit to travel and work irregular/extended hours.
- Have a familiarity with the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
