Job Summary:

The position of Athletic Trainer functions as a member of the sports medicine staff and operates under the immediate supervision of the Director of Sports Medicine.  The Athletic Trainer will function as the primary coordinator of the men’s soccer program and women’s flag football program, with other sports as assigned.  The Athletic Trainer will assist with the care of student-athletes competing in all the university athletic programs.  Duties include the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries coverage for athletic practices and competitions.  The Athletic Trainer will also assist in completing student-athlete injury reports, entry of information in electronic medical records and the subsequent submission of insurance forms to the appropriate university personnel.

 Key Responsibilities:

Evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injury

Assist in maintaining proper care for student-athletes in the university’s athletic programs.

Prevention of injury

Provide counseling and education to student athletes and coaches regarding training and measures to prevent injury.  Assist with coordination of medical coverage for home competitions.

Injury reports and insurance claims

Assist with the record keeping of all student-athlete injuries.  File appropriate insurance forms with university human resources personnel.  Enter information into electronic medical records.

Student-athlete support

Coordinate referrals and liaison with physicians and/or other medical professionals to schedule appointments and determine a student athlete’s ability to practice and participate in competitions.

Miscellaneous

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine and/or Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:                           

  • Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization
  • Certified by the Board of Certification for athletic trainers
  • Licensed or eligible for license by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
  • Familiarity with NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA governing rules
  • Compliance with university, HAAC, NAIA, NATA, and KSBHA policies
  • Effective written and oral communicator
  • Confidentiality
  • Ability to supervise students and work as a member of a team
